Volodymyr Lytvyn, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine met Michael Woods, Chairman of the Joint Committee of Foreign Affairs, on Wednesday, in the Framework of the Official Visit to Ireland.
In the course of the meeting V. Lytvyn and M. Woods expressed the thought on the vast possibilities of the both countries to develop efficient bilateral cooperation.
The Chairman
of the Joint Committee of Foreign Affairs emphasized the high level of the
bilateral connections in the cultural sphere and expressed hope on their further development as well as on
the strengthening of the Ukrainian-Irish cooperation in tourist sphere.
In his turn, V. Lytvyn mentioned the fact that "the Embassy of Ireland in Ukraine will be opened soon", expressing the thought that it would facilitate the passing of the bilateral relations onto the real practical dimension. Ukraine, according to the words of the Head of the Parliament is especially interested in the intensification of the economic cooperation with Ireland as the rate of the trade turnover between the countries is insufficient at the present moment. "Ukraine is ready for the investments on the part of Ireland and we possess all the premises for it", he declared.
V. Lytvyn expressed hope that the groups of parliamentary friendship between our countries would be working actively in order to receive the highest results of the bilateral cooperation.
The special attention was paid to the issues of European integration aspirations of our state. "Our principal aim is to intensify the dialogue with EU and we expect your further assistance regarding the indicated purposes of Ukraine", - V. Lytvyn stated. According to his words, Ukraine "feels the support of the Irish Parliament Deputies on the level of Parliamentary Assemble of Council of Europe, European Parliament and other international parliamentary organizations." V. Lytvyn declared that the perspective of the treaty signing between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of Ireland on the simplification of the visa registration is supposed to be completed this year.
"There is no doubts we will scrutinize the issue on visa regime between Ukraine and Ireland", - M. Woods assured.
The Parties also discussed other issues of the bilateral cooperation and the perspectives of the signing an agreement on avoiding of the double property and income taxation.
Moreover, in the framework of the official visit V. Lytvyn visited the sitting of the Senate (The Supreme Chamber) of the Parliament of Ireland.
As it was announced, 23-24 March, V. Lytvyn stays with the official visit in Ireland.
